WEEK 35 - OCTOBER 2002
Don't miss out on "firsts"
There are several "firsts" throughout a child's life that you don't want to miss. The first smile, the first step, etc. There was one first this week that I was glad I didn't miss - Joshua's first messy outfit in the highchair. Getting food all over his face and clothes is the best part of starting solids as far as I'm concerned. I say have fun and get messy, and worry about manners and neatness later.
And I was proud to discover Joshua's first favorite food - carrots. It is the first thing that he has really taken to and will gobble down without stopping.
Starting solids "by the book"
Now I know that there is a proper method to starting solids. There are specific foods to start with. You are only supposed to give one food at a time several days apart. Well, as I said last week, "that's a first baby thing." This is one time we are not going "by the book".
With Joshua, it's basically just whatever we are having for dinner, if we can mush it up we offer it to him. We even gave him more than one new food at the same time!
And if we're in a hurry, then he just gets his spoon and cup of water.
Temper, temper
This is another first that always takes you by surprise. It is just so funny to see a little eight-month-old with an attitude. I took something away from him and he let me know in no uncertain terms that he was NOT happy with me.
I know it is very cute now, but it won't be for long.
