DR. BILL AT HIS BEST

Examining wiggly toddlers is tough. Sometimes us pediatricians need to “go with the flow” and do whatever it takes to get the job done. We need to get our hands dirty. We need to get into the trenches.

Today Dr. Bill did just that. He started a check up with a toddler, but the little guy had other things on his mind. He wanted to go. Not just go, as in leave our office, he needed to go use the potty. That’s fine. Happens all the time. You know, when nature calls who are we to stand in the way? But then he wouldn’t come out of the bathroom. He loved our little big kid potty so much he didn’t want to leave. So what did my dad do? Did he just move on to the next patient and tell the parents he’d see their kid as soon as they could get him to leave the potty?

That’s probably what I would have done. That’s probably what most doctors would have done. But not my dad.

I came out of doing my own checkup to find the office staff standing in the doorway of the bathroom watching this scene. I’m thinking, “What the heck could be going on in the bathroom that would bring the entire office staff over in a crowd?”

Never in a million years would I have guessed it was my dad doing a checkup. Right there, in the bathroom, with the parents standing in the doorway. I had to hand it to him. He definitely goes with the flow when he needs to.

Hey, doing bathroom exams certainly makes the hernia check easier.

Dr. Bob
