Taking it up a notch!
Today was the fifth straight day of hard training; a 42 mile ride yesterday, a fast five mile run this morning, and I will still swim tonight! Tomorrow will be a much needed rest day before I hit it again this weekend. I’m feeling just a little fatigued, but I don’t think I’ve over-done it. With just three and a half weeks before Ironman, I am starting to get into my typical “hyper-vigilant” state: Sleep, nutrition, immunity and hand washing are all become much more important than usual – I just can’t afford to get sick now. Everything that I eat or drink must pass my quick test: “is this going to help make me faster or slower”. This is really my favorite phase of training! I’m taking it to an intensity level that I could only sustain for a few weeks. This is especially true for nutrition. During normal life, a little bit of fast food and junk food makes its way into my diet every few days. But during my “step it up” phase, forget it! When I’m hungry, the thought of junk food is just not appetizing. I’m only craving wholesome food, I taking extra Juice Plus+, extra omega-3’s, drinking extra water… AND I’m feeling awesome!
