AskDrSears.com - FAQ "SLING FOR A PETITE MOM"

SLING FOR A PETITE MOM
"I was suggesting a sling for my friend who just had a baby 7 weeks ago. We went to the store and looked at them and my friend is so petite that she felt it was too big. I thought there were different sizes in slings. Is there? What info can you give me."

It can take a while to get used to wearing a baby sling. One common mistake is not having it tight enough. I remember needing to pull the strap all the way through the buckle, and then pull it through more (so that some of the cushioned rail is through the buckle, too). This is especially important if mom is petite, otherwise, the baby rides too low for comfort. With a tiny newborn, it also helps to place a small, folded-up blanket into the sling under the baby. This helps take up the extra room, and baby doesn’t seem to get lost in all that fabric.
