AskDrSears.com - FAQ "FORESKIN WORRIES"

FORESKIN WORRIES
"At my son's two year well-baby check, the doctor pulled back my son's foreskin without my permission and before I could stop him. It didn't seem to cause my son any pain. My question is: Do I need to pull back his foreskin regularly now and clean underneath it since it has been pulled back once? It feels pretty tight to me, and I have not been able to pull it back."

First of all, don’t worry. Since your son didn’t feel any discomfort, I don’t think the foreskin was forced back too much to cause any problems. At this point, you can still follow the usual recommendation: Never forcefully retract the foreskin beyond what is comfortable. In the bath tub, have your son gently retract the skin as far as is comfortable and “wiggle” it in the water – this should get it clean enough. Will it be a problem if he doesn’t clean it? During checkups at my office, I usually ask the uncircumcised boys if they retract and clean. Most of the time the answer is no, and I very rarely see any problems.
