PREPARING FOR NEW SIBLING

"I am 20 wks pregnant with our second child. Our children will be 19 mos apart when the second baby is born. How do I prepare if at all our first baby to this important event? As I mentioned earlier, the first baby will only be 19-mos-old. What can I do to help him in this transition? He is now almost 15 mos. Thank you,"

First off, there’s no need to worry too much about this. I would simply talk about the new baby on the way, and have your little one go with you to obstetric appointments so he can see the ultrasound. Listening to your belly, and feeling for kicks is a fun way to prepare for baby, too. It is also nice to look at his baby pictures, and talk about the things he can do for the new baby, such as helping with diaper changes. There is a great book, called “Baby on the Way”, that has drawings of a baby inside mommy, and other “learning about baby” suggestions. Click here for info.
