Coronavirus: Alleviating the Fear Factor

Alleviating the Coronavirus Fear Factor in Your Home

One of our top teachings in the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute is how to change a problem into an opportunity for personal growth. The coronavirus scare is your opportunity. Early on you want to imprint into fertile little brain gardens the top key to stress management; “you can’t always control circumstances (the coronavirus pandemic), yet, you can control your reaction to them.”

Tips for Parents

Parents are the major mirrors for their children. If your kids witness your fear, they will feel fearful. Instead, let the coronavirus situation (CVS) be your motivator to give your family preventive tools against most illnesses. This is a teachable moment in time for your family. Here are some suggested steps:

1. Kids are low risk.

Tell them not to worry about what they read or hear and have a conversation such as: “you’re probably hearing a lot about the coronavirus, if you’re confused and have questions about it, let’s talk…”. Then explain to them that kids are at low risk for getting sick from it.

Lesson in life: My parents are my most trusted go-to resource for information.

2. Play show and tell.

Read to them about their NK cells and show them, in the article, what they can do to keep themselves healthy, especially the smoothie in the mornings and salad in the evenings.

Lesson in life: eating healthy foods, keeps me healthy.

3. Hands off face.

As far as we know, the only way coronavirus can get into your lungs is through your mouth and lungs. Teach them not to rub their nose, pick their nose, or suck on their thumbs. Instead, rub their arm if they feel fidgety.

Lesson in life: some habits are healthy, some are harmful.

4. Go outside and play.

Fresh air and movement mobilized their immune system and gets their little minds off of all the scary news.

Lesson in life: Move more, sit less!
